Hill Walking in Ireland: Dingle Way

17 June 2017

Aloha from Ireland!

The hiking group is altogether now and we have started our two hikes:  Dingle Way first and then the Ring of Kerry.

My friends, Kerri, Brian and Pat, are all long distance and experienced hikers in their home state of Colorado.

We departed Cork Ireland on the early bus for Tralee, the starting point of the Dingle Way.  As we walked out of town, we saw our first marker and knew we were finally on our way!

Brian And Kerri- Walking past the Camino Kerry Sign.
The sights I will see very often.... my pals back sides as they are such accomplished hikers

We walked out of Tralee and up into the hills, known as the Slieve Mish.    We spent the entire day (11:30 to 6:00) hiking across the hills into Camp, our first night's stop.  The hike in the hills was extremely tough for a novice like me- mud, rocks, bogs, streams, big boulder rocks, and LOTS of sheep do-do.

My friend Kerri, in the wind, next to a lovely water lily pond.

On the start of our hike, we found a bench with a few words of wisdom- and also learned that we are on the Irish Camino!  So I guess I am doing a Camino after all.

We walked 14.2 miles, or according to my IPhone Activity app... we climbed 84 stories, walked 35,000 steps.  I felt every one of them.

Guinness and pasta tasted great last night.  More to come!

Aloha.
